What is a man willing to do for the woman he loves? That’s the central theme of Joel and Ethan’s first feature film. The film starts off in Saigon during the Tet Offensive of 1968 with our hero Ray raping an ornate fire plug in a drunken stupor. With his character strongly established we cut to Texas in the mid eighties. Ray is a DJ at Austin’s hottest club, Texass-T. He meets Abby, the boss’s wife during a break dance competition and is immediately smitten. At first she disses him but eventually his dope moves get her head swooning. After several overly long sex scenes they compile a plan to do away with husband Julian. Julian is no dumb bunny and sees the handwriting on the wall, so he decides to sponsor a freeform dance competition knowing Ray would never pass up such an opportunity. Of course the dance is ridged to favor Meurice, a local Negro, to disgrace Ray in Abby’s eyes. It works to a tee and later Julian hires a bunch of Columbians to kill Ray, which they do with enthusiasm because Ray stole coke from them during the Iranian hostage crisis. With no other ally in site Abby goes back to Julian. He decides to take her back only after she agrees to change her wandering ways. They then have four children.
